Kaštela Classic

This circular trail that allows you to get to know part of the most beautiful Mediterranean coast and its hinterland begins in Kaštel Stari, one of the seven castles built by the nobles of Trogir and Split, which together now form a unique and distinctive city. The striking landscape is surrounded by the slopes of the Kozjak hill, but despite the steep road, the view of the magical Adriatic and the unspoiled islands is sure to take your breath away! Here you will discover Lećevica, a small Dalmatian hamlet, a haven of stone houses and the characteristic St. Martin’s cemetery. Following the trail of dry-stone masonry, the art of construction in the Mediterranean area is under the protection of UNESCO, and the village of Kladnjice will complete the picture of this traditional style of construction, whilst the church of St. Philip and George will delight you with its photogenicity even from a distance. On the way back to the sea, along Prgomet and Seget Gornji you will reach Trogir, another star under the auspices of UNESCO. And before you know it, 70 kilometres of the trail bring you back to Kaštel Stari, built around a fortress-palace in 1476 on a sea cliff to which a drawbridge once led.

Technical characteristics

A very dynamic trail with 4 climbs, the most significant being the ascent to Malačka, which begins after a short ride through Kaštele. The climb is 8.4 km long with a constant gradient of 5% accumulating 434 m above sea level, and so it will be challenging for both recreational and experienced cyclists. The descent on the other side of the hill has gentle gradients with a number of hairpin bends, which add to the dynamics of the trail. The next climb towards Lećevica also has a constant gradient of 5% with one flat part halfway up the climb. A dynamic ride through undulating terrain leads to the climb towards Prgomet, which has the same characteristics as the previous climbs, although it is slightly shorter, being 2.8 km long. A very fast section leads to the descent to Seget, which is particularly dynamic with a number of clear bends. A straight road by the sea leads from Seget to Kaštele, which is great for cooling down after a challenging trail. The entire trail is ridden on wide two-lane roads, but with very little traffic all the way to Prgomet. Compact crankset is not required due to the tame character of the climb.
